The bovine leather of Bangladesh in it’s category, with 0.9-1.1 mm, 1.1-1.3 mm & 1.2-1.4mm thickness ranges & 08-16 sq.ft., 14-22 sq.ft. & 16-32 sq.ft. size ranges for Cow & 0.6-0.8 mm with the size range 2.5-4 sq.ft. & 3-6 sq.ft for Goat , are considered as one of the best & finest leathers of the world . These hides have the finest grains & the best fiber structures. Taking into account the size of the hides, local full-grown animals are considered as calf compared to the hides from some other areas of the world. However, thickness range 1.1-1.3 mm for bovine leather used to produce better results with the standard size of 15-25 sq.ft. for shoe uppers. Thickness range 0.9-1.1 mm is good too for some models of shoe uppers. There are about 400 million sq.ft of leathers available per annum of which 30 million sq.ft. is consumed in the domestic market & the rest of the quantity is available for export.
